Aqib Javed Backs Babar Azam As Opener

Pakistan’s head coach, Aqib Javed, has expressed his strong belief in Babar Azam’s ability to lead from the front.

“I believe Babar Azam should open in these conditions. I’m hopeful he will play a big innings in an important match,” Aqib said, emphasizing his strategy of maintaining a balanced batting approach, particularly in the crucial middle overs.

Despite recent setbacks, Aqib remains optimistic about Pakistan’s chances.

“This same team will perform very well in the Champions Trophy. Losing one or two matches doesn’t mean the team isn’t good enough. This squad has everything needed to be at the top,” he asserted.

He also highlighted the importance of having a well-rounded squad with a mix of spin and pace all-rounders.

“We needed spin and pace all-rounders, which is why Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf are part of the team. Having variety is crucial in a tournament,” he explained.

Aqib praised Khushdil Shah’s impressive bowling performances in both matches.

“Every team has a specialist spinner and an all-rounder. Khushdil has bowled well in the previous match and again today,” he added.

Looking ahead, Aqib stressed the importance of a strong opening partnership.

“If Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam can form a solid stand at the top, things will improve significantly,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, New Zealand secured the tri-nation ODI series with a five-wicket victory over Pakistan at the National Bank Stadium on Friday.
