Aqib Confident To Win Test Series Against West Indies
Aqib Javed, the Head Coach of Pakistan’s National Cricket Team, is confident that Pakistan will secure a series victory in the ongoing Test series against the West Indies. Currently, Pakistan leads the series 1-0.
Speaking from the Multan Cricket Stadium, Javed expressed his optimism about Pakistan’s chances, stating that the West Indies’ batsmen struggle against spin bowlers, which gives Pakistan a clear advantage in home conditions. “West Indies batsmen can’t play that well against spin bowlers,” Javed said. “The rule of Test cricket is that you win at home,” he added, highlighting the importance of playing in familiar conditions.
On the topic of team selection, Javed explained that players are chosen based on the playing conditions. He pointed out that no spinner has played in South Africa yet, where pitches are designed to favor the hosts, presenting challenges for visiting teams like Pakistan.
Javed also mentioned the need for Pakistan’s fast bowlers to adapt their reverse swing skills for pitches in countries like South Africa and England. Referring to Shoaib Akhtar’s success in similar conditions, he emphasized that fast bowlers must learn to make the most of such surfaces.
While discussing the fast bowlers’ impact, Javed criticized the tendency to celebrate wickets taken by pacers while downplaying the contributions of spinners. “The most important thing is to win the match,” Javed stressed, focusing on the team’s goal.
Looking ahead to the second Test, Javed mentioned that the team’s final strategy will depend on how the pitch behaves throughout the match, underlining the importance of adjusting to changing conditions.
