Comforatable Win For India Over Bangladesh in Champions Trophy 2025
DUBAI: Mohammed Shami’s exceptional five-wicket haul, coupled with a composed century from Shubman Gill, guided India to a convincing six-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the second match of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Chasing a modest target of 229, India comfortably reached the finish line with four wickets down and 21 balls to spare.
India began their chase strongly as captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put together a solid 69-run partnership. However, Sharma departed on the final delivery of the batting powerplay after scoring 41 off 36 balls, including seven boundaries.
Gill then partnered with Virat Kohli for a 43-run stand before Kohli fell for 22 off 38 deliveries. The Indian innings faced a slight hiccup as two quick wickets left them at 144/4 in 30.1 overs.
Despite the setbacks, KL Rahul joined Gill in the middle and stabilized the chase. Their unbeaten 87-run stand ensured India’s comfortable win. Gill remained unbeaten on 101 off 129 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes, while Rahul contributed 41 off 47 deliveries.
For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain took two wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with one each.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s decision to bat first backfired as the Indian bowlers ripped through their top order, reducing them to 35/5 in just 8.3 overs.
Amid the collapse, Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy staged a remarkable fightback, stitching together a crucial 151-run partnership. Their counterattack kept Bangladesh in contention before Shami broke the stand by dismissing Jaker in the 43rd over. Jaker scored 68 off 114 balls, including four boundaries.
His dismissal triggered a brief lower-order collapse, but Hridoy stood firm despite battling cramps, reaching a hard-fought century. He top-scored for Bangladesh with 100 off 118 balls, striking six fours and two sixes.
Shami was India’s standout bowler, claiming 5/53 in his 10 overs, while Harshit Rana picked up three wickets and Axar Patel took two.
