Gaddafi Stadium’s Inauguration Set for Early February, Confirms PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced that the inauguration of the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium will take place in the first week of February, just days before the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 begins.

During a detailed inspection of the stadium, Naqvi assessed the final stages of renovation. He closely examined the upgraded dressing rooms, hospitality boxes, and multiple floors of the venue to ensure they meet international standards. Additionally, he personally checked the view from the newly installed seats and expressed satisfaction with the progress.

“For the first time in Pakistan’s history, a stadium with state-of-the-art international facilities has been developed,” Naqvi stated. “Both players and cricket fans will enjoy the modern amenities. By the will of Almighty Allah, the new Gaddafi Stadium will be inaugurated in the first week of February.”

Naqvi also met with construction workers, commending their dedication and hard work in preparing the stadium for the prestigious eight-team tournament. As a token of appreciation, he invited them to watch the first match of the upcoming tri-nation ODI series on February 8, promising to sit alongside them during the game.

Gaddafi Stadium is set to host at least four key matches during the Champions Trophy 2025, including the second semi-final on March 5. Additionally, the venue may host the final on March 9, provided India does not qualify for the title match.

The tournament, featuring 15 matches, will take place from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi—along with Dubai.

The eight competing teams are divided into two groups:

  • Group A: Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh
  • Group B: Afghanistan, South Africa, England, Australia

Pakistan will face New Zealand in the opening match on February 19 in Karachi, while the highly anticipated Pakistan-India clash is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.
