Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam Reflect on the Rising Intensity of PSL 10
Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi and Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam shared their perspectives on the much-anticipated 10th season of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), touching on team preparations, rising competition, and the evolving dynamics of the league.
Speaking at the captains’ press conference, Shaheen Afridi expressed enthusiasm about the emerging talent in the Qalandars camp.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing what the young players bring to the table,” said Afridi, underlining the importance of investing in future stars.
While acknowledging the hurdles that come with a fresh season, the left-arm fast bowler maintained a cheerful and determined mindset.
“Everyone makes mistakes—what matters is how we enjoy and learn from the PSL,” he stated.
Afridi also stressed the significance of Pakistan’s domestic circuit as a breeding ground for PSL talent. “Players earn their PSL spots through strong domestic performances,” he said, reiterating the league’s role in bridging the gap to the international stage.
He also commended fellow pacer Haris Rauf, using his rise as an example of how the PSL serves as a launchpad for emerging players. “This league is our pride, and it deserves our full support,” Afridi emphasized.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam, leading Peshawar Zalmi, praised the league’s competitive edge and balance among teams.
“All six franchises are well-balanced this season,” said Babar, pointing to the growing parity and depth across squads.
He further noted that each franchise has put together strong rosters in pursuit of the trophy. “Every team aims to build the best combination possible, and that’s what makes this PSL edition even more thrilling,” he added.
The landmark 10th edition of the HBL PSL is set to kick off on Friday, April 11, with defending champions Islamabad United facing two-time winners Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The tournament will span 34 matches, played between April 11 and May 18. Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host 13 of those, including both Eliminators and the grand finale.
