Stop calling me ‘King,’ says Babar Azam

Babar Azam has requested that people should stop calling him "King," stating that he is not a king yet

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has urged people to stop calling him “King,” saying he does not consider himself one yet and will only deserve the title after accomplishing something significant.

Speaking after Pakistan’s match against South Africa in Karachi, Babar explained that his mindset is always to score runs whenever he bats. However, he admitted to struggling with finishing innings.

“As the innings progresses, I get a better understanding of the game and the pitch,” he said.

Babar also acknowledged that opening the innings is a new role for him, which he has taken on at the team’s request. He commended Mohammad Rizwan and Salman for their strong performances, stating that such contributions help build team confidence.

Regarding his own form, Babar said, “I try to give my best, but once I’m set, I haven’t been able to play long innings. I reflect on how to overcome this challenge.”

He emphasized the importance of focusing on the present rather than dwelling on past performances.

“What I did before is history. If I keep thinking about previous performances, I won’t be able to perform in the future. Every new day comes with a fresh plan and mindset,” he added.

Babar concluded by stating that successfully chasing a big total boosts the team’s confidence.
